You can see I have the back unit under one side and a cardboard box and cushion on the other. It makes fitting so much easier if you get the Top Box at or near the level you will be fixing it at. http://www.sjsvwcamperinteriors.co.uk/apps/photos/photo?photoID=74376995 74376995 VW T2 Fitting Photos Screw the Top Box base board up to the rear tailgate rebate with self tapping screws and cups. This makes for a very solid support when the front is fixed as well. http://www.sjsvwcamperinteriors.co.uk/apps/photos/photo?photoID=74505173 74505173 VW T2 Fitting Photos Small fixing block fixed to the line on the back of the Top Box front panel you can use some glue on these, make sure its a type that sticks to vinyl, A glue stick gun may work, I hav'nt tried one though. Notice in this pic I have drilled some holes in the fixing block ready to fix it to the inner box. Start the screws in this block, before you offer it up. http://www.sjsvwcamperinteriors.co.uk/apps/photos/photo?photoID=74505165 74505165 VW T2 Fitting Photos After you have screwed the fixing block to the back of the Top Box front, drill two holes in it for fixing to the Top Box sides. We start a couple of screws and cups in these holes, so as to save time fiddling around afterwards. http://www.sjsvwcamperinteriors.co.uk/apps/photos/photo?photoID=74509086 74509086 VW T2 Fitting Photos We supply an abundance of packing's. This pic shows what I mean, take off a little at a time with a small plane. The PVC edge trim is a T section which knocks into a slot put on the edge of the plywood. The slot can be done with a 3mm slotter cutter used in a router. http://www.sjsvwcamperinteriors.co.uk/apps/photos/photo?photoID=123805883 123805883 VW T2 Fitting Photos This is the Worktop cut out . We do this with a template and Router. This is done by us for a reasonable extra cost . You can see it is quite a complex shape, if you want to do it yourself that's fine. http://www.sjsvwcamperinteriors.co.uk/apps/photos/photo?photoID=74368057 74368057 VW T2 Fitting Photos You will find it a little easier to fit the R & R Bed with the Side Unit door off. You will notice also that I haven't put the hinges on the side wings yet. When your happy with the fit against the Side Unit, then is the time to fasten them on. http://www.sjsvwcamperinteriors.co.uk/apps/photos/photo?photoID=74505166 74505166 VW T2 Fitting Photos Make sure the front of the R & R Bed is square off the floor, check both ends. The side wings also have to be square off the front of the R & R Bed and parallel with each other, this is very important. http://www.sjsvwcamperinteriors.co.uk/apps/photos/photo?photoID=74505175 74505175 VW T2 Fitting Photos Make sure the front of the R & R Bed is square off the floor, check both ends. When you have done this square the wings off the front of the R & R Bed. http://www.sjsvwcamperinteriors.co.uk/apps/photos/photo?photoID=74505174 74505174 VW T2 Fitting Photos It is best to open out the holes a little on the R & R Bed hinges. This allows the 6mm bolt to pass through easily. http://www.sjsvwcamperinteriors.co.uk/apps/photos/photo?photoID=74505167 74505167 VW T2 Fitting Photos You can see the wheel tub and engine bulkhead in this shot. We have found this to be best way to anchor down the R & R Bed hinge mechanism. When the position of the hinge mechanism has been determined we drill a 6.5mm hole, then above it we drill a 25mm hole with a HSS Bi-metal hole saw. Make sure when drilling your pilot hole and the 25mm hole that your drill bit doesn't go to far in. The fuel tank is behind the bulkhead. So use control when drilling these holes. This makes for a strong fixing, don't forget to put the washer on the bolt before you pass it down and through the 25mm hole. http://www.sjsvwcamperinteriors.co.uk/apps/photos/photo?photoID=74671980 74671980 VW T2 Fitting Photos Just about to offer the 50mm bolt through the 25mm hole drilled in the bulkhead. I suggest you put it on a piece of wire, and fish it down into the 25mm hole. Then you will be able to maneuver it to pop out of the 6.5mm hole. http://www.sjsvwcamperinteriors.co.uk/apps/photos/photo?photoID=74509087 74509087 VW T2 Fitting Photos You can put the carpet over the engine bay at the same time as you put the floor vinyl down if you wish. This shot shows I have slit the carpet after drilling small giude holes through it for the hinges. I then drilled holes to the sizes I needed 25mm and 6.5mm. http://www.sjsvwcamperinteriors.co.uk/apps/photos/photo?photoID=128387047 128387047 VW T2 Fitting Photos Pushing the bolt through, the wire is still attached at this point, you can just about see it at the side of my finger. http://www.sjsvwcamperinteriors.co.uk/apps/photos/photo?photoID=74505169 74505169 VW T2 Fitting Photos This is everything well anchored down and ready to rock and roll. http://www.sjsvwcamperinteriors.co.uk/apps/photos/photo?photoID=74671981 74671981 VW T2 Fitting Photos This is everything well anchored down and ready to rock and roll. Notice the captive nuts in the back and seat baseboards. These were then bolted to the hinges after upholstery had been done. Because we offer upholstery now we decided to use another method of fixing. This new method allows for better accuracy for fitting the seat and back. The upholstery can be done now before the seat is fitted. Everything is explained in the next lot of pictures. http://www.sjsvwcamperinteriors.co.uk/apps/photos/photo?photoID=74671979 74671979 VW T2 Fitting Photos This is the new way of fitting the base boards. They are screwed on from the back. Its a lot easier for you when fitting. Notice the big gap. This is for the 75mm (3") foam. http://www.sjsvwcamperinteriors.co.uk/apps/photos/photo?photoID=197053163 197053163 VW T2 Fitting Photos This is the seat of the R & R Bed all marked ready for drilling. Use a 2mm drill for the coach screws. http://www.sjsvwcamperinteriors.co.uk/apps/photos/photo?photoID=151351900 151351900 VW T2 Fitting Photos Take your time and there should be no problems. Make sure you keep your drill at 90% to the seat all round. http://www.sjsvwcamperinteriors.co.uk/apps/photos/photo?photoID=151351901 151351901 VW T2 Fitting Photos This is the R & R Bed hinge with one coach screw in. The coach screws are a good fixing, especially now with the 25mm ply base boards. http://www.sjsvwcamperinteriors.co.uk/apps/photos/photo?photoID=151351902 151351902 VW T2 Fitting Photos As you can see in this shot, the coach screws are large and have a good course thread to drive into the plywood. With 4 of these in, its a great secure fixing. http://www.sjsvwcamperinteriors.co.uk/apps/photos/photo?photoID=151351904 151351904 VW T2 Fitting Photos This is how the support bracket fits, there is one at each side. So if you want to sit on the edge of the bed you can. http://www.sjsvwcamperinteriors.co.uk/apps/photos/photo?photoID=166161925 166161925 VW T2 Fitting Photos This is how your Worktop should finish up after the cut out. Another way of doing this is to leave the edging strip off. Then cut the worktop around the square edge of the Back Unit. When you have done this you can fit the edging strip in two pieces. Some of you may find it easier to do the job this way. http://www.sjsvwcamperinteriors.co.uk/apps/photos/photo?photoID=74505176 74505176 VW T2 Fitting Photos Here the edging strip has been left off for the Worktop to scribe around. When this is done fit the T section edging strip. Don't forget to warm the strip before you fit it, get it nice and pliable. You will find this way of fitting the Worktop to be the easiest. http://www.sjsvwcamperinteriors.co.uk/apps/photos/photo?photoID=126658585 126658585 VW T2 Fitting Photos This is a shot of the worktop being fixed down, the hand cramp again is very handy to hold it in position, while you screw up from underneath. http://www.sjsvwcamperinteriors.co.uk/apps/photos/photo?photoID=74505178 74505178 VW T2 Fitting Photos This is how the Side Unit and Back Unit should meet up. They are fastened together with cabinet connectors. http://www.sjsvwcamperinteriors.co.uk/apps/photos/photo?photoID=75006884 75006884 VW T2 Fitting Photos This is how the Side Unit and Back Unit should meet up. The female part of the connector needs a few mm cutting off to allow the units to pull tight together. http://www.sjsvwcamperinteriors.co.uk/apps/photos/photo?photoID=79526817 79526817 VW T2 Fitting Photos Just a word here about drilling the hole in the floor to receive the Table leg spigot. Unless you have had experiance before at drilling holes using large cutters, this one is a 70mm HSS Bi-metal hole saw, we recommend using a drill with a safety clutch. You could brake a thumb, finger or even your wrist if the drill cutter jams in a drill without a clutch. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. http://www.sjsvwcamperinteriors.co.uk/apps/photos/photo?photoID=75752880 75752880 VW T2 Fitting Photos This is the best time to cut the hole in the floor, when the floor covering is down and the units fitted. If you are in any doubt at all as to whether you will hit anything underneath the van, check your measurements first even before you start to drill. Drill a small hole first 3 or 4mm, then look underneath to see exactly were you are. http://www.sjsvwcamperinteriors.co.uk/apps/photos/photo?photoID=75752881 75752881 VW T2 Fitting Photos As you feel the cutter going through the floor pan, control it so that it doesn't go too far. You need to avoid mangling anything underneath. This photo shows some cables and pipes close to the floor pan. http://www.sjsvwcamperinteriors.co.uk/apps/photos/photo?photoID=75752882 75752882 VW T2 Fitting Photos This is the Vitrifrigo fridge door in the off position. You will notice I use two screws and cups to hold it in position on the verticle sides of the unit, and two small machine screws into the top of the fridge. There are two captive nuts in the fridge top to screw into, one at each side of the fridge. This makes for a very secure yet simple fixing. http://www.sjsvwcamperinteriors.co.uk/apps/photos/photo?photoID=75752898 75752898 VW T2 Fitting Photos There is plenty of room behind the fridge for the sink waste and water pipe to the tap. http://www.sjsvwcamperinteriors.co.uk/apps/photos/photo?photoID=75752899 75752899 VW T2 Fitting Photos These are the skids in position for the fridge to slide in the Base Unit. I did'nt get round to lubricating the catches this winter and this is what happens. You will notice sign's of rust. This paticular locker is the worst one on this van for condensation. All my other catches on all the other doors and draw's are fine , even though I forgot to lubricate them at the end of the year. This is what I would suggest, after each season when your van is not in use, lubricate the catches. Use a type that leaves a protective film after drying off. While your at it do the hinges as well. http://www.sjsvwcamperinteriors.co.uk/apps/photos/photo?photoID=152268034 152268034 VW T2 Fitting Photos If you fit the PMS 3, you will need to alter the shelf as shown here or take it out . http://www.sjsvwcamperinteriors.co.uk/apps/photos/photo?photoID=189254589 189254589 VW T2 Fitting Photos The PMS3 looks quite neat on the side of the Back unit. http://www.sjsvwcamperinteriors.co.uk/apps/photos/photo?photoID=189254595 189254595 VW T2 Fitting Photos If you fit the PMS 3, you will need to alter the shelf as shown here or take it out. http://www.sjsvwcamperinteriors.co.uk/apps/photos/photo?photoID=189254587 189254587 VW T2 Fitting Photos The PMS3 looks quite neat on the side of the Back unit. http://www.sjsvwcamperinteriors.co.uk/apps/photos/photo?photoID=189254588 189254588 VW T2 Fitting Photos There seems to be plenty of air flow round the unit. If your van has the indent at the bottom of the bulkhead this shape makes the fit look so much better. To achieve this I provide some pieces to fix on the side so you can cut the shape out. http://www.sjsvwcamperinteriors.co.uk/apps/photos/photo?photoID=203200662 203200662 VW T2 Fitting Photos What I find the best is to lay the Buddy Seat on its side. You then need to fix the piece I provide to the edge. Its good to glue this on. I use mitre glue. You put the glue on one edge and spray the activator on the other and put the two together. It makes for a very strong bond. Fix a block on the back as well to finish it off. http://www.sjsvwcamperinteriors.co.uk/apps/photos/photo?photoID=203200661 203200661 VW T2 Fitting Photos There you go the finished job. You may need to do this on both sides of the seat. You can use the template I mark out for you for the Base unit to make this shape.
